The 30th Anniversary Musical – High School Musical
A Message from Principal Ha
Welcome to our 30th Anniversary Gala! Today, we proudly present High School Musical, an uplifting story that encourages our students to open up and realise their hidden potential.
Over the past year of rehearsals, I have witnessed remarkable growth in our cast and crew. What they have learned extends far beyond the performing arts; they have cultivated strong teamwork, self-confidence, and resilience under pressure. They have built lasting friendships, constantly encouraging one another through every challenge. By balancing their academic studies with rigorous practices, they have mastered time management and the ability to juggle multiple commitments. Furthermore, their agility in quickly adapting to changes and the director’s instructions has been truly impressive.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to the production team, the English Department, and all the dedicated students involved. I wish our performers every success on stage today. To our audience, I hope you thoroughly enjoy the show and leave inspired to embrace its core message: move beyond our comfort zones and chase new goals.
A Message from Mr. Chan, the Chief Coordinator
Some might wonder why schools often choose to stage a musical as the grand finale of their anniversary celebrations. In fact, a captivating musical can be one of the most strenuous performances that one could imagine for a student. It literally represents the pinnacle of the performing arts — an exciting mix of singing, dancing, acting, and performing in English. It could well be the only art form that is as demanding as it is gratifying for students and even teachers. Indeed, students in musicals often find themselves moved to tears when the production finally reaches its culmination.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our Principal, the entire English Department, our dedicated colleagues, our producer, director, vocal coach, choreographers, and the whole remarkable production team. In particular, the most heartfelt thanks go to the cast’s parents, whose unwavering support has helped their children endure the hardships and shine on stage.
A Message from Mr. Yip, the Deputy Coordinator
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to our production of High School Musical JR.
At POMA, we hold fast to the belief that the arts do more than brighten school life. They give it life and colour. The English Musical is one living expression of that belief. Over the past months, we have heard uncertain first notes gather strength, watched hesitant steps grow steady and seen our students discover new ways to speak, sing and step into the light.
We are therefore delighted to present High School Musical JR., a story that reflects many of the values we cherish. It celebrates friendship, teamwork and the importance of being true to oneself. It reminds us that young people should not be limited by labels or expectations but encouraged to step forward and discover what they can become.
As Deputy Coordinator of the English Musical, I have had the privilege of walking beside our students throughout this journey. It has not always been an easy one. There have been long rehearsals, tired faces and much unseen work behind the scenes. Yet these are the moments I shall remember most: the patience shown after mistakes, the laughter that returned after exhaustion, as well as the gentle way our students learnt to carry one another forward.
I warmly invite you to savour every scene, every note and every moment. May you see not only a performance, but also the dedication that has carried our performers through this journey.

It is hard to believe that I have been performing in English musicals for two years, and I am honored to play the lead role this year.
The primary reason I took part in the musicals was my passion for performing in front of an audience. I was eager to showcase my energy and bring joy to every student. Beyond that, I hoped to make new friends. Our cast was a tight-knit team, and we worked tirelessly toward our shared goal. I have built genuine friendships here, and these friends always offered support whenever I felt discouraged.
Before the musical course began, I was absolutely thrilled and surprised to learn I would be playing Gabriella. I asked our director, K.O., why he selected me for this part. He explained that my personality and problem-solving skills perfectly match the character of Gabriella.
One major challenge was working with my co-star, Troy. I hardly knew him before this musical, so we lacked chemistry at the beginning. Fortunately, we developed a close friendship through our countless rehearsals.
Another tough challenge was my solo piece, "When There Was Me and You." I initially feared I wouldn't be able to handle this demanding song. Our vocal tutor, Cleave Lam, constantly motivated me and taught me many practical vocal techniques. He shared insights into Gabriella’s backstory, advising me to convey genuine emotions rather than merely singing the notes. He reminded me that I needed to narrate Gabriella’s tale sincerely to the audience. Eventually, I managed to master the song and deliver the character’s story through my singing. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my vocal coach for his valuable guidance.
In addition to being grateful to Cleave Lam and K.O., who have taught me numerous practical skills that I can apply throughout my life, I also wish to thank Mr. Ip, our school music teacher. He constantly reminded Troy and me to rehearse diligently so we could deliver our finest performance on stage. Mr. Chan and Mr. Yip, the teachers in charge of the musical, also helped me polish my English articulation. They even sacrificed their lunch breaks to give us extra tutoring. I am deeply thankful for their devotion.

When I first joined the musical, I had just two simple goals: to improve my English and make new friends. To my surprise, following the auditions, I ended up being cast in the lead role of Troy. This unexpected outcome presented a huge challenge for me.
Throughout rehearsals, our director, K.O., and vocal coach, Cleave, constantly guided me to dive deeper into the character, pushing me to think about what Troy wants to achieve in each scene, how he connects with the other characters, and how my emotions should shift while singing. To better portray him, I watched the original classic film over and over, and leaned heavily on the guidance of all my tutors.
This experience led to tangible growth for me. My spoken English, singing, and dancing all improved significantly, and I filled my entire script with detailed notes.
I am truly grateful for the dedication of every teacher. Beyond the director and vocal coaches, Mr. Chan was exceptionally thoughtful, with a unique and heartwarming approach to organizing our tasks and keeping us motivated. Mr. Yip and Ms. Chan spared no effort in helping me polish my pronunciation.
Our dance instructors, Ada and Vicky, always went above and beyond to design and teach us the choreography. Mr. Ip also spent extra time tutoring us in singing. I would also like to thank all the dedicated staff, both onstage and backstage.
I also witnessed a wonderful transformation in my peers. We started out as complete strangers, but eventually grew to greet each other warmly whenever we ran into each other in the hallways.
All in all, this musical is far more than just a precious memory. It stands as a milestone of growth for all of us during our youth. Here's to a great show and a wonderful life!
