Technovation HK Pitch Finals 2017(ICT)

日期: 07/05/2017

What is Technovation?

Since 2010, more than 10,000 girls from 78 countries have participated in Technovation. With the help of volunteer mentors, they've produced mobile startups that have helped address problems in local and global communities all over the world. While more and more girls are taking up the challenge over the years, we know that there are always problems to solve and the girls are always ready to solve them. Technovation offers girls around the world an opportunity to learn necessary skills to emerge as tech entrepreneurs and leaders. Every year, Technovation inspires girls to establish a business plan and mobile app that will address a community problem.

Technovation Hong Kong 2017

Hong Kong has become part of Technovation HK in 2017. Together, 290+ Hong Kong girls from 40+ schools registered to participate in this global technology entrepreneurship challenge.  Technovation Hong Kong 2017 was launched on 8 March 2017, and four of our girls from 3B (CHIU YUK YU, HUI HOI LAM, LAI WING TUNG and LAI YUEN YI) formed a team and participated in the competition. They successfully developed an Android app addressing health issues, and also made demo videos, proposals and business plans on top of that. On 7 May 2017 at Cyber Port , they have entered the Pitch Finals with the best 10 senior teams in Hong Kong , where they demonstrated the Android APPS and gave a presentation.

Reflections from 3B CHIU YUK YU

I have learnt a lot in this competition, such as how to write a business plan, create an app and teamwork. It is a great challenge to us, and our perseverance took us to the finish line. I know that I can always do better though. We should have a better time management and division of labor.   Last but not least, I would like to express my deep gratitude to my teachers, mentor, teammates and friends.

Reflection from 3B Lai Yuen Yi, Yoki

From the Technovation Challenge, I have broadened my horizons and I am glad that I could take part in this competition.

During the competition, I joined a lot of courses. Most importantly, there were mentors and helpers who guided me on how to create the app. It is worth spending my time on taking the courses as they are useful and practical in enriching my knowledge on technology, like how to use the App Inventor.

My main mission is coding, preparing scripts for videos and making the PowerPoint Slides. I faced lots of challenges while I was doing these work jobs. For example, this is my first time using the App Inventor to write a program, so I did not know how to use it at the beginning. Fortunately, I joined the Boot Camp where there were mentors teaching me how to use the App Inventor.

Finally, we finished our work and my group is one of the best 10 senior teams in Hong Kong. I am very glad that I could give a presentation at Cyber Port. Although we failed to make it to the best 5 senior teams, we never think that our effort goes in vain because we have learnt a lot during the process.

After the competition, I reflected upon our performance. I think that we would work better in the division of labour and time management. This is really a precious learning experience to us.

Reflection from 3B Lai Wing Tung, Crystal

In this Technovation Challenge, I have learnt a lot, like how to develop a business plan. In fact, I feel very grateful for completing the whole project. At the beginning, we were so frustrated that we thought of giving up the project. Yet, with our effort and support from the teammates, we could finish the app at last. This challenge lets us understand that there should not be any gender stereotype on the development of apps as boys and girls are equally capable of this, as long as we put effort into our work.

Reflection from 3B Hui Hoi Lam, Helena

After participating in this contest, I have learnt that team spirit is the most important thing for collaboration. I have grown a lot in the project as I could bring into play my knowledge and develop camaraderie with my team members. I appreciate my team member—Yoki a lot, because she has been very hard working and efficient. With the support from my team members, I enjoy the whole competition.
